Shelter dinners 2010

2010 shelter dinners have been scheduled. We will be preparing dinners every 4th Saturday of the month for the year 2010. Happy New Year everyone and thank you so much for your extraordinary work in 2009!

Donate

On any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless, according to estimates of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty. Helping the homeless requires individuals like you to make a commitment to help those among us who are in the greatest need. Your monetary donation will go a long way to help feed homeless men and women in Northern Virginia. 100% of your donation (minus Paypal charges if any) is used to feeding the homeless as we are 100% volunteered based.

Iranians. Iranian-Americans. Be Counted!

The specific goals of this project are to reach every Iranian/Iranian-American household in the country to educate them about the importance of participating in the 2010 Census, to assure them that the information provided to the Census Bureau will by law be confidential, and to urge them to respond to questions relating to race, ethnicity, and national origin in a consistent manner.

Vafa Animal Shelter

VAFA Animal Shelter is the first animal shelter in Iran and is located in the town of Hashtgerd, about an hour and a half west/northwest of Tehran on the road to Ghazvin. It was put together with the hard work of Ms. Fatemeh Motamedi who has a deep love for animals of all shape and size and donated her land and organized the building of the shelter with her own funds. At present, the shelter is under the supervision of Ms. Lida Esna-Ashari and is run by a group of devoted volunteers and caring veterinarians who donate much of their services.

When Things Fall Apart

I recommend this book called "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron which I found to be very useful for these times of turbulence and uncertainty in our lives:

Let's save Farnaz!

I received an email this morning from one of the Dast2Dast volunteers. Farnaz is her cousin's wife and below is the body of the email:
